a beautiful tragedy

how do we save our artists who are struggling with their demons, she asked

after naming famous poets, rockstars and hipsters from our last 40 years

save them from what, i wondered….

their tortured artist minds are what gave us such beauty and such tragedy

ask any of ’em and they will tell you that

the demons delivered their substances

right along with the ART

they came naked or

dressed in finery

they delivered

on fine silver platters

in tar stained balloons

with fine gold spoons

or twice used, near rusty works

ask any of ’em and they’ll tell you

the demons came

allowing both the beauty

the grit

the breathtaking

the thought provoking and

the sweet pain

of release

through art

a beautiful tragedy

through our loss

we were saved

or introduced

  1. Your words touch me so deeply. They are like a sieve that sifts the detritus from my soul and leaves me somehow purified and energized to keep moving forward. They make me reminisce on the past and those who left an indelible mark. Thank you. You are one of the finest poets I know.
