why stay

do you want this, he asked      seems like a tough crowd filled with        time wasters    the cold the angry       desperados, punching time clocks and heading home to viscerate     strangers   for sport   arrogance  lives here      next door      next line       this should not be your neighborhood of choice   not much heart    like yours    i’ve searched   and i’m not finding you in here        what you’re made of     composed of        why this      why now?        after all these years       why now

from where i’m sittin’     the view is empty    i can feel the chill off this mountain    its crept into you and caused enough damage    already    do you really want this?    we are  light years apart in the logistics of mile and country    but you have always been  my compadre’, amiga      if its just a hand you’re looking for        i have two    to hold yours with    eyes to read your words  voice to tell you what’s working         you know where we’ve been    what’s been shared and seen        athough my eyes stay wet with tears   these days  they will always hold  a clean calm     a  lake    you can rest in      row out to its middle with me   i will not push you overboard    or toss oars in     leaving you stranded       stay with me here     you once said      i remember              ‘stay with me here…whisper your words to me and i will scream some back”

as exercise or exorcism, i write...for the eyes of others, for my eyes and heart only, for the love and the rage, i write...to release the gamut of emotion...to tell the truth and say what's often thought but not written...
