with this heat
humidity has packed
up her ratty suitcase
and moved west
delivering
dripping southern roots
to our skies…
ballparks steamin’
with season’s end
bouncin’ foul balls
off the no-wind zone
hand delivered sweetly
into the gloves of
the most deserving
bringing grins and memories
of childhood past
a fondest secret wish
fulfilled…
the sounds
the heat
the sweat
the smells
pouring over
we kids of summer
another season
comin to a close…
feels like summer to me
still…
maybe summer
will stay
hangin onto
our skins
til’ the first
light of winter…
