fall in summer

the air has changed
fall’s crispness
snuck in
between SF’s fog
bank
and the hillsides
of grapevines
that dot our landscapes..

still, we
wait for the
explosion
and constant
of this now
elusive
summer’s heat

the evening skies, too
have changed
with summer’s onset
it fell gently
behind
my grove of apple trees
dappling each leaf
now sated, early
summer is leaving this valley
taking the light
for an early escape..
